Hey there TWCCKids Families!

To all dads, step-dads, grandpas, brothers, and dad-figures. Happy Father’s Day! Thank you for all you do to love, guide, and father the children in your life.

While I might not have any experience being a father, I do know there are so many expectations placed on men to do so many things for those around them. Some of those expectations are biblical while others are internal and some are assumed from the world around us. When we can let go of ungodly expectations, we can be free to run our race and follow after God!

Here are 6 biblical expectations according to scripture:

  1. Be faithful – If you want to raise children who are faithful, it is critical to be faithful to your wife (Genesis 2, Proverbs 3:3-4, Ephesians 5:28-30)
  2. Be Attentive to Your Children – Kids need to know how much you care before they care how much you know and what your rules are (Ephesians 6:4)
  3. Teach God’s Truth – You don’t have to be a bible scholar to teach your kids about God. Simply model your own walk with God for them, bring them in as you read your word and have conversations to discover more about God together (Deuteronomy 6)
  4. Set Your Own Heart to Search Out Spiritual Truth – As humans, we have a daily decision to set our hearts after God. Although we wish we could never make another mistake, there are times we will fall short. Having age-appropriate conversations with our children about our mistakes will open up a different level of discipleship within the home (Ephesians 6:10-20 and James 5:16)
  5. Lead Your Family with Intentionality – Being able to say to your family, “follow me as I follow Christ” is an amazing thing. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes. However, leading your family on purpose, even in those struggles, can have eternal outcomes (Psalm 25:15 and 1 Corinthians 11:1)
  6. Be Responsive to the Needs of Your Wife and Children – While it is impossible to meet every need of the family, the daily goal should be to do it to the best of our ability. And when we can’t meet their needs, our job is to direct our family to the ultimate “Need Meeter”, who created them and know them better than we ever could.

Being part of the body of Christ at The Word Community Church means you don’t have to do life alone! There are a lot of great men’s small groups that you can join to help you as you follow Christ. Reach out and connect with one this month!

I will leave you this month with these statistics:

  • When both parents attend Bible study in addition to the Sunday service, 72% of their children attend church regularly as adults.
  • When only the father attends Sunday service, 55% of the children attend as adults.
  • When only the mother attends Sunday service, 15% of the children attend as adults.
  • When neither parent attends Sunday service, only 6% of the children attend as adults.

Men, you have incredible influence in the eternity of your children! Thank you for everything you do to point your children to Christ! Our world would be so different without fathers who love God. Your investment in your children really does make a difference!! Keep up the good fight!

In His Love,

Alicia “Allie” Varela

What we're teaching

MAKE IT OR BREAK IT: A 4-WEEK SERIES FROM GENESIS ON CREATION & EARLY HUMANITY

SERIES OVERVIEW:

Whether it’s with LEGO bricks, Minecraft, or Roblox, kids (and adults!) love to make things — and sometimes break them. In this four-week series from the very beginning of the Bible, we’ll compare God’s ability to make good things with our tendency to break them. Through the stories of creation, the fall, Cain and Abel, and the Tower of Babel, we’ll see that God makes good things, unbreaks what’s been broken, and made us different on purpose, so we should honor God with the things we make.
